In this week’s class, we learned about ‘Entertainment’ in XD elements and ‘Scenarios & Storyboards’ in XD processes. We explored XD design ideas as entertainment, gamification, user scenarios, storyboards. In the team project, I also contributed more ideas and flow maps of user journeys for my team.

First, I would like to talk about what the ‘Entertainment’ is in XD. In the experiential experience, entertainment should be a process of enjoyment and pleasure. XD designers are empowered to use a variety of media and technologies to add entertainment elements to the user experience, such as graphics, color, audio, video, animation, virtual reality, augmented reality, interaction, responsive feedback, gamification, and more. Therefore, good entertainment is based on on a variety of experiential elements, and it would be realistic, sensual, pleasurable and rewarding.

The purpose of ‘Scenarios’ is to identify the actions of typical users and follow them to complete specific tasks. It can be a text description, a list of steps, or a simple chart. These content-specific processes set up more scenarios for the user journey or storyboard. It can also be said that creating multiple scenario to analysis user experiences applies different situations or tasks related to the concepts of the team project.

‘Storyboards’ are graphical representations of how we will unfold and shot by shot. It usually consists of many squares with illustrations or pictures. Each shot has illustrations or pictures with notes about what happens in the scene and what is said during that shot. Like a script, a storyboard visually guides the user through the experience process or design concept throughout the production process. Therefore, when I have a storyboard, I can accurately show the process of the user experience and its story concept, which makes it easier to understand.

For the process of our team project, we designed clear directions for the user journey map into the storyboard. We set up a scenario for the user journey: Nicole, as a student without much financial support, wants to transition to sustainable fashion, but does not know where to start. The steps for this scenario are advised to consider five steps, planing to buy, go on to app or webpage, deciding to buy, after buying and handling with clothes. The goal is to make better decisions when buying new fashionable items without causing too much impact. For this scenario, choosing fashionable but affordable brands and a variety of styles is essential.

Next week, we will continually hold a regular meeting and divide the work for the next steps of our team project.
